Position Summary

Branch Civil is searching for a skilled, responsible Traffic Control Specialist (TCS) to join our well-established, growing company.  The Traffic Control Specialist shall be on the project site developing and maintaining ways and means of controlling traffic on a daily basis.  The TCS communicates and works closely with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager, and Project Engineer.  The TCS ensures that adequate supplies are available to meet required needs.  Responsible for proper placement, erection, and removal of traffic control materials.  Ensures that flag persons are properly trained and placed effectively. 

  • Cooperates with the DOT Division of Incident Management staff.
  • Becomes familiar with applicable regulations and/or policies.
  • Works with the DOT Statewide Operations Center (STOC) to ensure proper messages are displayed on the CMSs and DMSs.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with traffic control supervisors of adjacent, and overlapping construction projects, as well as construction projects in proximity to the subject project, to ensure safe and adequate traffic control setup is maintained throughout the project at all times, including periods of construction inactivity.
  • Sees that adequate supplies are on hand to meet required needs.
  • Stays abreast of any changes which come about during the day and takes necessary steps to effect suitable control procedures.
  • Provide traffic control setup that ensures safe traffic operations and workers’ safety throughout the construction area.
  • Attend all scheduled traffic control coordination meetings, as required by the Engineer
  • Monitor traffic delays and backups within the work zone.

Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
  • Minimum 5 years of traffic control experience, with at least 3 years in work zone set up 55+ mph and implementation on similar projects.
  • Must have DOT experience
  • Must be certified by responsible party (contractor or DOT) to have the required experience and training and is qualified to perform the duties of this position.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 50+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
