OWNERSHIP, HISTORY, AND ORGANIZATION

Branch & Associates, Inc. was founded in 1963 as a successor to McAlister Construction Company. Billy H. Branch was the principal owner. In 1982 the Board of Directors adopted an Employee Stock Ownership Plan to facilitate the continuation of the Company in years to come by making eligible employees part owners of the Company. The Company is fully owned by the employees.

Before a Building Division and a Mechanical Division were added in the mid 1970’s, the Company was principally a highway and excavation contractor. In 1984, Branch & Associates, Inc. purchased G. J. Hopkins, Inc., one of Virginia's most progressive mechanical and electrical contracting companies. Effective January 1, 1987, Branch & Associates, Inc. (Corporate and Accounting) became The Branch Group, Inc. The highway/equipment division became Branch Highways, Inc., the building division remained Branch & Associates, Inc., and the mechanical and electrical company remained G. J. Hopkins, Inc. In 1997, The Branch Group, Inc. purchased E. V. Williams, Inc. a grading and concrete paving company in the Tidewater area. Effective January 1, 2017, The Branch Group, Inc. merged Branch Highways, Inc. and E.V. Williams, Inc. to form Branch Civil, Inc. In May 2008 L.A. Lacy, a professional construction services company joined The Branch Group, Inc.

Today, The Branch Group, Inc. is unique in its ability to provide an owner with a complete job from the site work to the completed building. This diversification also enables the Company to maintain its financial and bonding strength.
