As an HVAC Technician 3, you will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of various HVAC systems, including air-cooled and water-cooled units. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in compliance with relevant codes and specifications. You will perform inspections, preventive maintenance, assist in system installations, and work collaboratively with a team to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
Position Summary
The HVAC Technician 3 is a skilled professional responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a variety of HVAC systems, including both air-cooled and water-cooled units. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and specifications. The technician will conduct regular inspections, perform preventative maintenance tasks, assist in system installations, and collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.
Key responsibilities include conducting thorough inspections of mechanical air conditioning systems, performing electrical diagnostics, executing piping system layouts, and engaging with customers to provide updates and address concerns. The technician must demonstrate proficiency in working with Building Automation Systems and various HVAC-related tools and instruments, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and cleanliness on the job site.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair various types of HVAC equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant mechanical codes and project specifications.
- Assist and/or lead in the installation of mechanical air conditioning systems using a variety of tools and instruments, identifying system issues and making necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Inspect and diagnose electrical equipment (less than 480 volts) to determine functionality and safety.
- Conduct regular inspection of mechanical air conditioning systems using a variety of tools and instruments, identifying system issues and making necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Perform specified preventative maintenance tasks on including Air Side, Cool Side, and Hot Side portions of simple air conditioning equipment, and accurately document associated paperwork.
- Occasionally perform acid tests and oil samples as prescribed; collect and deliver samples for analysis.
- Execute layout and assembly of mechanical piping and components, ensuring all systems function efficiently and safely.
- Inspect, test, and perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on mechanical systems, particularly reciprocating air conditioning units.
- Read and interpret blueprints, project specifications, and technical documents to ascertain installation requirements and necessary materials.
- Carry out wiring and conduit installations; splice and connect wires, and install electrical fixtures and control equipment.
- Lay out, assemble, and maintain piping systems, verifying the appropriate type and size of pipes and fittings are utilized, including copper piping and FR polyethylene tubing.

- Collaborate closely with fellow HVAC technicians to share technical knowledge and enhance troubleshooting efforts.
- Identify system issues through regular inspections and make necessary adjustments or repairs to maintain optimal performance.
- Communicate with customers to provide service updates, address inquiries, and ensure satisfaction with the work performed.
- Demonstrate familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Controls (DDC) to enhance service delivery.
- Participate in job site safety meetings and strictly adhere to safety protocols to uphold a secure work environment.
- Document work activities meticulously and assist in preparing reports for project updates and compliance requirements.
- Progress in the field and stay current with industry trends through ongoing training and licensing, both internal and external.
- Conduct tests for leaks, electrical compatibility, and safety to verify compliance with regulatory standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the job site, ensuring tools and equipment are treated with care.P erform work orders and job tasks with minimal supervision.
- Employ critical thinking and reasoning skills to identify challenges and propose effective, alternative solutions.
Act as a mentor for HVAC Service Technicians I and II.
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Air Conditioning or equivalent experience.
- EPA Type 1 and Type 2 certification
- 5-15 years of relevant experience depending on Journeyman’s/Master’s licensing
- Basic HVAC design calculations and a good understanding of DDC control systems.
- Extensive knowledge of most HVAC systems with the ability to analyze and execute needed repairs.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently to job sites.
Compensation Data
Salary Min: $52,209.50
Salary Max: $89,485
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.

The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear. The employee will need to be able to carry up to 75ibs, lift up to 100 lbs, and move up to 200lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which will typically require 40 hours per week.
