PLUMBING TECHNICIAN I

Position Summary

Are you a hardworking professional looking to solidify your career in the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) trades? We are seeking a Plumbing Technician 1 to join our project teams. 

This is an entry-level position designed for individuals who are eager to learn through supervised, hands-on experience in both new construction and large-scale renovation environments. You won't just be "fixing leaks"—you’ll be a vital part of a coordinated team building the infrastructure of our community. 

We are seeking a Plumbing Technician 1 to support our MEP project teams. You will assist in the installation and repair of various plumbing systems in new construction and renovation projects. This entry-level role is designed for individuals with a strong work ethic who are eager to build a career in the plumbing trade through supervised, hands-on experience. 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • System Installation: Assist with rough-ins by measuring, cutting, and threading pipes (PVC, PEX, Copper) and installing hangers and supports. 
  • Fixture Setup: Help assemble and install sinks, toilets, water heaters, and other commercial or residential plumbing fixtures. 
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Support other technicians in diagnosing leaks, clearing blockages, and performing routine preventive maintenance. 
  • Technical Support: Read basic blueprints and diagrams to determine the layout of water supply and waste systems. 
  • Safety & Logistics: Maintain a clean job site, organize tools on the service truck, and strictly adhere to OSHA safety protocols. 
  • MEP Coordination: Work alongside electrical and HVAC teams to ensure plumbing systems do not conflict with other building infrastructure. 
  • May give instruction, direction, and mentorship to others on the job site including an assigned helper 
  • Gather/collate/classify information

Duties/Responsibilities Cont.

  • Exercise critical thinking and reasoning skills 
  • Execute work-place safety regulations 
  • Selects type and size of piping and related materials and equipment such as supports, hangers, and curbs, according to specifications 
  • Inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that work performed will not cause structural damage 
  • Makes plans to coordinate job site materials, subcontracted work, job schedule, and job close-out documents. 
  • Plans installation and repair to avoid obstructions and interference with the activities of other workers 

 

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required  
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in plumbing or a related field 
  • Familiarity with basic hand and power tools (e.g., pipe wrenches, drills, soldering torches). 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment 
  • Adherence to OSHA safety protocols 
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record  

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Completion of a Level 1 plumbing vocational program 
  • Basic ability to ready blueprints and diagrams to understand plumbing layouts 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. They will need to stand (approximately 70%), walk (approximately 20%), and sit (approximately 10%). The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear. The employee will need to be able to carry and lift up to 50-75lbs, and move up to 200lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
