
DESIGN BUILD COORDINATOR
Position Summary
Hopkins | Lacy is searching for an experienced Design-Build Coordinator to join our team in developing proposals for Design-Build MEP projects in the Southeast region of Virginia. The Coordinator will support Hopkins | Lacy’spre-construction team in finding Alternative Delivery Projects (CMAR, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, PPEA, Negotiated, and others), providing pursuit and post-award coordination with estimators, designers, and operations for the projects. During the RFQ / RFP pursuit phase, the Coordinator will lead the estimating and design coordination effort for Hopkins | Lacy to manage the RFQ / RFP MEP needs including qualifications information, design budget, technical writeups, develop innovative ideas, perform constructability reviews, and ensure compliance with the RFQ / RFP documents in conjunction with the designer. Post-award, the Coordinator will work with Hopkins | Lacy’s Operation Team to manage the designer’s design budget and schedule, ensure timely submissions, perform constructability reviews, track changes, follow the project’s design through plan approvals, assist with the development, and ensure that a QC/QA is in place and being followed.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Closely coordinate with Business Development and Estimating and Operations to identify, develop, captureand win projects.
• Manage the MEP designer’s services during project pursuit and execution.
• Coordinate the MEP design with the Architect.
• Establish and manage the design budget and design schedule.
• Generate MEP design deliverables and design schedule for pursuits.
• Coordinate between design, estimating and operations to brainstorm and develop innovations during the pursuit as well as during the execution of the project.
• Monitor pursuit design schedule and milestone dates for the Client / Owner.
• Ensure constructability of design and compliance with RFP and approved specifications and drawings
• Lead all Technical Work Groups associated with the design and coordinate the interface between design and estimating teams
• Coordinate with Operations personnel to perform constructability reviews
• Coordinate brainstorming sessions and contribute to development of innovative ideas or Alternative Technical Concepts
• Manage deliverables and RFI’s between estimating and design teams
• Work with estimating team to develop the MEP Design Fee and any Construction Services scope of work
• Integrate with Operations staff to manage the post-award design process and budget
• Develop post-award design schedule with Designer and Architect
• Track all submittals and approvals for post-award design until design is complete
• Perform over-the-shoulder reviews with the Designer
• Document any changes to the budget based on design development
• Lead the post-award design constructability review with Operations staff
• Provide monthly report of design status to Project Team
• Manage the post-award design process to optimize design and reduce scope of work while meeting the RFP specifications
• Develop design cost controls, track and develop actual metrics for budgeting

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering and / or 10+ years related industry experience in Vertical or MEP Industry
• 2 to 3+ years of related Design Coordination or Design Management experience on Alternative Delivery Projects.
• Experience in MEP design on Healthcare, Higher Education, K-12 Education, Commercial, Industrial markets.
• Familiar with managing design to develop cost efficiency and generate value engineering opportunities
• Technical writing and presentation skills in order to help in the production of Statement of Qualifications(SOQs) and Technical Proposals
• Prior experience in leading multidiscipline MEP designers and ability to organize, plan, and report on progress
• Ability to interface with teaming partners, clients, owners, and stakeholders while developing productive relationships
• Must be a self-starter, have a strong work ethic, and to be committed to quality.
• Financial acumen for single project as well as overall Business Unit

Travel will be require and may include all of Mid Atlantic region and approximately up to 50%.

The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to develop slide decks and deliver presentations.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week.
