MECHANICAL TECH I
Position Summary
Hopkins | Lacy, the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, (MEP) Division of Branch, is searching for a dynamic Mechanic Technician. Responsible for meeting schedule, controlling costs, and managing manpower and equipment (if applicable) on assigned project. Provides continuous hands-on field supervision of all construction operations, including subcontractors and other construction related personnel; directing them in the planning, scheduling, and execution of work on time, within budget, and with high standards of workmanship. Attains or exceeds profit goals and promotes workplace safety while meeting or exceeding client’s expectations. Promotes a positive company image. Is the leader on every project and is ultimately responsible for its operational success. They also lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and industrial production and processing systems, applying knowledge of system operation and following blueprints.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment such as supports, handers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications
- Inspects worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that cut pipe holes will not cause structural damage
- Plans installation and repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interference with the activities of other workers
- Cuts pipe using saw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine.
- Threads pipe using pipe threading machine.
- Bends pipe using pipe bending tools and pipe bending machine.
- Assembles and installs variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes and fittings including iron, steel, copper and plastic.
- Connects pipes using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused or cemented joints and hand tools.
- Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps and hangers using hand tools and power tools.
Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
- Installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping using hand tools and power tools and following specifications and blueprints.
- Tests pipe systems and observes connected pressure gauge to test system for leaks
- May weld pipe supports to structural steel members
- Gather/collate/classify information
- Exercise critical thinking and reasoning skills
- Execute work-place safety regulations
Qualifications
- High School diploma or Equivalency
- Up to 4 years prior Mechanical Technician experience
- High School level mathematical and language skills
- Valid Driver’s License
- Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. They will need to stand (approximately 70%), walk (approximately 20%), and sit (approximately 10%). The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear. The employee will need to be able to carry up to 75lbs, lift up to 100lbs, and move up to 200lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
