
PROJECT ENGINEER (MEP Construction)
Position Summary
Hopkins | Lacy, the mechanical, electrical, plumbing division of Branch, is searching for a diligent, highly motivated, highly skilled, and flexible Project Engineer (PE) to join our well-established, growing company. This position is crucial to the project team and requires discipline and attention to detail with quality work product while meeting deadlines. The PE works closely with, and supports, all members of the project team to ensure success of the project. The Project Engineer assists the Project Manager as needed. This includes, but is not limited to overseeing daily job progress, submittal development, shop drawing review, scheduling of manpower and materials, equipment purchasing, quality assurance, producing monthly project reports, etc.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Manage all project submittals by creating and maintaining a submittal register, receiving submittals from subcontractors and suppliers and verifying they meet project requirements, and communicating submittals to the appropriate members of the project team.
- Create submittals, plans and reports
- Work in conjunction with project superintendents and the project manager to receive, review, analyze, document, answer and/or submit requests for information to the project team.
- Maintain up to date physical and electronic project documentation such as drawings, specifications, RFI’s, submittals, commissioning documentation, punch lists, meeting information, etc. to archive project documentation and provide efficient access to documents by the project team.
- Document project progress using web-based software and communicating that information to the project manager.
- Review, prepare and submit project close out documentation such as Operations & Maintenance Manuals and Warranties both physically and electronically, attic stock, and video tape Owner Training.
- Develop a material tracking log from submittal information and the project schedule and coordinate with the project superintendent to ensure material will arrive on-time to support the project schedule and construction.

- Support the superintendents by contributing to solutions in a proactive manner on the project site.
- Monitor inspection/testing and maintain reports and records.
- Work to promote a safe work environment for all workers with an injury free objective.
- Develop an understanding and support the project team in producing a quality project
- Prepare agendas and meeting minutes for various meetings.
- Manage the activities of individual project field operations to result in planned and profitable growth.
- Aid other Divisions to maximize company opportunities.
- May periodically act as QC reviewer on projects.
- Always maintain excellent customer satisfaction levels.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a High School Diploma and six years of experience in the construction industry or a bachelor’s degree in a construction related field or bachelor’s degree with related experience and/or Project Management Professional (PMP designation).
- Successfully manages projects and tasks of a scope, complexity and revenue budget appropriate to experience.
- Applies buildings engineering and project management knowledge while leading multi-discipline resources to meet project requirements within established timeframes and budgets.
- Computer literate with the ability to use Microsoft Office software and the flexibility for continued computer education.
- Knowing how to use Bluebeam program, BIM software (REVIT), project management software (Procore, Prolog, etc.), and/or scheduling software is preferred.
- Good customer relations and sales skills.

Competencies
Travel
Travel is limited to field locations in the Central and Southwest Virginia area. Most travel will not require overnight arrangements

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
