Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice - Roanoke, VA

Position Summary

Branch Civil, Inc. is searching for a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice to join the team!

Duties/Responsibilities

The Roanoke-based Heavy Equipment Technician Apprenticeship provides apprentices with the on-the-job and classroom training hours required to earn their heavy equipment technician journeyman’s card, which has reciprocity in other states.

Over the course of four years, the apprentices will learn through a blend of in-house training, John Deere University, CAT University, LinkedIn courses, and the 16-week Virginia Western welding program. In total, they’ll receive 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and 144 hours of instruction in the classroom per year.

Qualifications

• This program is open to those who are 18 years old or older (no previous experience required).
• Apprentices will be paid an hourly rate during on-the-job training.
• The company provides learning materials.
• Each apprentice will be assigned a mentor to oversee training and development.
• Upon completion of the four-year program, the apprentice will receive their journeyman’s card.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. They will need to stand (approximately 60%), walk (approximately 30%), and sit (approximately 10%). The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear. The employee will need to be able to carry up to 75lbs, lift up to 100 lbs, and move up to 200lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
