INSULATOR

Position Summary

Hopkins | Lacy, the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing division of Branch is looking for an Insulator. The Insulator is responsible for installing and maintaining insulation systems on mechanical piping, ductwork, and plumbing components across commercial and industrial construction projects. This role ensures systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with energy conservation and code requirements. The ideal candidate has experience in the construction industry and is skilled in handling insulation materials, tools, and installation techniques.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project drawings to determine insulation needs.
  • Measure, cut, and install insulation materials (e.g., fiberglass, foam, rubber, mineral wool) on piping, ductwork, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
  • Fit insulation around obstructions and secure with appropriate adhesives, bands, or mechanical fasteners.
  • Apply vapor barriers, jacketing, or coatings to complete insulation assemblies and protect against moisture, fire, or physical damage.
  • Work collaboratively with pipefitters, HVAC technicians, and electricians to sequence insulation with other MEP installations.
  • Maintain jobsite cleanliness, adhere to safety procedures, and wear proper PPE at all times.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and follow company safety and quality control programs.
  • Complete tasks efficiently to meet project/customer deadlines and quality expectations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical or industrial insulation.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and interpret material specifications.
  • Knowledge of insulation types and fire/safety code applications.
  • Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and on ladders or scaffolds.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a trade apprenticeship or training in insulation or mechanical systems.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Prior experience working on commercial or industrial MEP projects.
  • Familiarity with HVAC systems and building mechanical codes.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. They will need to stand (approximately 70%), walk (approximately 20%), and sit (approximately 10%). The employee will also need to be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear. The employee will need to be able to carry up to 75lbs, lift up to 100lbs, and move up to 200lbs. Expected to work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors which may include confined spaces or at heights on scaffolding or ladders.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time hourly position which will typically involve 40 hours a week, with early starts or late quits as needed to meet project and/or customer expectations.
