EQUIPMENT OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENT

Position Summary

Branch's Civil Division is searching for a highly skilled, team-oriented Equipment Superintendent (ES) to join our well-established, growing company. The ES constantly oversees & supervises all field heavy equipment maintenance, repair, and condition, by monitoring usage, field service reports, maintenance reports, scheduled oil sampling and undercarriage surveys.   The ES determines the best method to maintain safe, productive equipment, with  minimal unscheduled down time. 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Daily, (on the phone or on-site) assist in trouble-shooting equipment failures and evaluate the best method of repair.
  • Monitor and update the 2000 hour PM and Repair spread sheet.  (For scheduling in-house or dealer repairs ).
  • Assist in coordinating equipment mobilization and coordinate the required disassembly and assembly of each piece of equipment, to facilitate in the hauling.
  • Prepare Shop and Field operational directive memorandums, on equipment service and safety issues.
  • Review all BHI, A.C.T., (Equipment Walk-around Inspection Reports) submitted to the shop and tracks the repairs resulting from these inspections.
  • Monitoring and coordinating crane and manlift repairs and safety inspections by certified inspectors, under federal guidelines.   Constantly alerting BHI Bridge Superintendents (and related management) responsible for crane operations, to deficiencies found in daily and monthly inspection reporting and to ensure that logs and maintenance reports are properly filled out to federal compliance standards.
  • Monitor and ensure service trucks are maintained in a reliable, safe condition and that all Federal and State requirements for drivers and trucks are met.
  • Monitor bulk fuel and oil containment tanks on job sites and ensure the condition, safety inspections and repairs are performed properly and promptly.  Coordinate and assist in the setup of fuel and lube bulk tanks and ensure that State and Federal guidelines are met.

Duties/Responsibilities Cont.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with the operating, maintenance, and repair procedures of all equipment
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the BHI preventative maintenance program and materials used to monitor and perform those services.
  • Monitors preventative maintenance status and ensures that equipment is being serviced properly and on time.
  • Have thorough knowledge of track type equipment’s undercarriage components. Measure, and monitor condition and maintain an “Undercarriage Evaluation Report”, noting condition, and recommendations for repair or replacement intervals.
  • Perform as required in depth or overall condition inspection of equipment in the field and in-house, making recommendations for repairs required and scheduling.
  • Monitor equipment oil sampling and make recommendations for repairs required and scheduling.
  • Visit each project a minimum of once each month during the construction season, with the sole purpose of inspection and observation of the equipment assigned to the project, to determine proper use and maintenance.
  • Supervise, indoctrinate, and establish training, for all new and seasoned, field service personnel.Daily staff job sites with mechanics and maintenance personnel, and monitor the job sites service needs in order to make adjustments in staffing.
  • Authorize, coordinate, schedule and dispatch BHI and dealers on repairs and maintenance, daily.  Perform follow-up to inform all pertinent personnel, as to machine status.

Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years heavy grading equipment field mechanic experience or ten (10) years heavy equipment shop mechanic experience with technical training in related areas.
  • A two (2) year Associate Degree in a related field with five (5) years  heavy grading equipment mechanical experience
  • A four (4) year degree in a related field with two (2) years heavy grading equipment mechanical experience.

Supervisory Responsibility

Directly supervises three to eight employees and consultants involved in each project. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
