SR COST ENGINEER

Position Summary

Branch Civil, Inc. is searching for a Senior Cost Engineer to join our well established and growing company.  The Sr. Cost Engineer will ensure accurate reporting of cost and production of the work and provide meaningful cost and production information for use by the Operations and Estimating departments.  The Sr. Cost Engineer will be a resource regarding project costs, production, and the financial trajectory of assigned project(s) and will report to the Project Controls Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Has a comprehension of the plans, scope and work activities of assigned project(s), including an in-depth understanding of the associated estimates & Direct Cost Reports.
  • Leads or aids the development of project budgets. 
  • Works with accounting and administration to adjust reporting 
  • Maintains standardized cost coding system by ensuring adherence to phase coding methodologies.
  • Oversight of new code generation 
  • Recommends suitable budget adjustment or phase changes and reviews change proposals 
  • Verifies proposal cover letter addresses all requirements 
  • Verifies procedures are in place/utilized to ensure efficient execution of work and accurate cost reporting 
  • Oversight of budget initiation for approved changes.
  • Manages the Trend Program including Trend Register, Trend Notices.  Prepares Trends.
  • Reviews time extension requests to ensure adequacy 
  • Assists in development of Schedule Impact Analyses 
  • Audits daily, weekly, and cumulative crew costs/production

Duties/Responsibilities Cont.

  • Monitors identified project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) 
  • Monitors production dashboards, reviews job-to-date/period quantities and costs, investigates anomalies, and reports findings to Director(s).
  • Periodically assesses actual labor/equipment compositions vs. budgeted.  
  • Reviews monthly Cost/Revenue Projections for assigned projects.
  • Adept at Earned Value metrics reporting.
  • Major contributor to the monthly progress report (MPR).
  • Helps to identify critical operations and works with project management and supervision
  • Supports the project team in managing bid quantity strategies, monitors and advises project management and supervision as to plan conformance.
  • Monitors equipment utilization to assist in minimizing equipment costs.
  • Prepares Quantity Unit Rate Reports.
  • Interim/Post-Mortem Project Evaluations
  • Collaborates with the project team to evaluate recognized gains and/or preventable losses.

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field and 10+ years in the E & C industry with a minimum of 5 years in the Heavy Civil Construction market.
    • Previous experience performing a similar role on Heavy Civil projects.
    • Experience on large heavy civil projects involving complex roadway and structure transportation improvement projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to uphold safety commitments and be a good steward of the environment.
    • Ability to interface with joint venture partners, owners, and stakeholders, while developing productive relationships.

This work is primarily sedentary in nature.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others and effectively operate standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers/scanners, etc. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week.
